About the role

This position is open for external candidates only to apply. This position will be filled at either the Research Technician 3 or 4 level dependent on the skills, knowledge and experience of the selected candidate. The Sigma Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Electrochemistry Research Technician 3/4.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting up electroplating lines that use both acid- and alkaline-based solutions.
  • Operate associated equipment including tanks, rectifiers, and pumps, to ensure high quality products.
  • Help develop new process and contribute to research around electroplating and/or electropolishing processes.
  • Prepare and maintain plating solutions, handle chemical safely, and dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with laboratory regulations.
  • Keep accurate records of plating processes, formulas, and results.
  • Perform quality control inducing inspections, testing, and titrations to confirm that bath chemistry meets specifications.

Requirements

  • Research Technician 3: Experience working with hazardous chemicals, conducting quality control inspections, testing, and/or titrations, maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing equipment, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, maintaining accurate records of plating processes, formulas, and results, ability to obtain a Q clearance.
  • Research Technician 4: Experience assisting in the development of new plating processes and techniques, collaborating with peer, staff, or external partners to learn new electroplating techniques, operating and troubleshooting electroplating equipment such as plating baths, power supplies, and analytical instruments.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience Required: Associate's Degree and 3 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation for Research Technician 3. Associate's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation for Research Technician 4.
  • Desired Qualifications: Active Q level clearance, hands-on experience with electroplating and/or electropolishing techniques and processes, certification in electroplating or related field.

Pay

Research Technician 3: $66,100 - $103,600 Research Technician 4: $72,800 - $115,400

Schedule

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).
