Electro Technical Officer (ETO)

About the role

The ETO is a member of the vessel engineering department and reports to the Chief Engineer for the maintenance of the vessel's electrical and electronic systems. While assigned to a vessel, the ETO is responsible for regular maintenance of the DP system equipment, ER monitoring equipment, and other department electronic systems, switchboards, transformers, and motors.

Responsibilities

• Repair of vessel electrical systems and electronic systems including the maintenance of the DP system and the thruster controls.
• Operating, updating, and maintenance of the ship's network.
• Monitor and maintain vessel ETO worklist.
• Order all parts and spares in regard to the worklist supplied by the vessel they are assigned to.
• Ensure that a true and accurate record of the work carried out is kept and entered in the maintenance records and handover notes, including updating manuals and drawings pertaining to their area of responsibility.
• Maintain and monitor preventative maintenance of equipment in the company software program MobileOps.
• Notify the Chief Engineer of any spare gear requirements and keep the Master and Chief Engineer fully informed of urgent spare requirements that may affect statutory requirements or the safe operation of the DP system.
• Assist other departments as requested with electronic and electrical problems.
• Perform other responsibilities assigned by the technical services team.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED Certificate is required; BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.
• Minimum five (5) years of sailing experience in an engineering role is required.
• US Merchant Mariner Document.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Local and international travel (including air travel) up to 50% of the time with and without notice.
• Ability to work in production areas in Shipyards and onboard ships, including walking to and from job sites, climbing inclined stairways and vertical ladders, entering confined areas and tanks, and working at heights.
• Valid Driver’s License and passport; ability to receive a TWIC.
