About the role
The Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer will provide engineering support for existing commercial refrigerated merchandisers and display cases by troubleshooting issues, implementing product improvements, and ensuring long-term reliability across mechanical and electrical systems.
Responsibilities
- Product Support & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues in production and fielded units.
- Investigate failures, perform root-cause analysis (RCA), and recommend corrective actions.
- Component Lifecycle Management
- Lead Engineering Change Notices (ECNs/ECOs) to update drawings, BOMs, and documentation.
- Work with cross-functional teams to communicate and implement design changes that improve quality, cost, reliability, or manufacturability.
- Manage component obsolescence by qualifying replacement parts, validating alternates, and ensuring functional compatibility with suppliers.
- Build, Test, & Verification
- Develop test plans and verification methods for redesigns or component updates.
- Validate that changes maintain or improve product performance, reliability, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, component standardization, and design simplification.
- Improve manufacturability (DFM) and serviceability (DFS) for existing product lines.
- Support ongoing process improvement within the engineering team.
- Provide rapid engineering support for manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and field service teams, including production line issue resolution.
- Documentation Control
- Maintain accurate engineering data, including CAD models, drawings, wiring diagrams, and product configurations.
- Ensure design intent is accurately captured and maintained within CAD, PLM, and ERP systems.
- Reliability, Safety & Compliance
- Perform FMEA, stress analysis, thermal reviews, tolerance analysis, or other engineering evaluations as needed.
- Verify that products remain compliant with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline; Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with electro-mechanical systems design or support.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD; able to read, interpret, create, and revise mechanical drawings and electrical wiring diagrams.
- Strong organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with solid mechanical and electrical engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with Siemens Solid Edge.
- Demonstrated success managing engineering projects from initiation through implementation.
- Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma problem-solving methodologies.
- Knowledge of industry standards for open-air refrigeration systems.
- Basic understanding of refrigeration system operation.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with electro-mechanical systems design or support.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD; ability to read, interpret, create, and revise mechanical drawings and electrical wiring diagrams.
- Strong organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with solid mechanical and electrical engineering fundamentals.
