About the role

The Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer will provide engineering support for existing commercial refrigerated merchandisers and display cases by troubleshooting issues, implementing product improvements, and ensuring long-term reliability across mechanical and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Product Support & Troubleshooting
    • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues in production and fielded units.
    • Investigate failures, perform root-cause analysis (RCA), and recommend corrective actions.
  • Component Lifecycle Management
    • Lead Engineering Change Notices (ECNs/ECOs) to update drawings, BOMs, and documentation.
    • Work with cross-functional teams to communicate and implement design changes that improve quality, cost, reliability, or manufacturability.
    • Manage component obsolescence by qualifying replacement parts, validating alternates, and ensuring functional compatibility with suppliers.
  • Build, Test, & Verification
    • Develop test plans and verification methods for redesigns or component updates.
    • Validate that changes maintain or improve product performance, reliability, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
    • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, component standardization, and design simplification.
    • Improve manufacturability (DFM) and serviceability (DFS) for existing product lines.
    • Support ongoing process improvement within the engineering team.
    • Provide rapid engineering support for manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and field service teams, including production line issue resolution.
  • Documentation Control
    • Maintain accurate engineering data, including CAD models, drawings, wiring diagrams, and product configurations.
    • Ensure design intent is accurately captured and maintained within CAD, PLM, and ERP systems.
  • Reliability, Safety & Compliance
    • Perform FMEA, stress analysis, thermal reviews, tolerance analysis, or other engineering evaluations as needed.
    • Verify that products remain compliant with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline; Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with electro-mechanical systems design or support.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD; able to read, interpret, create, and revise mechanical drawings and electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with solid mechanical and electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with Siemens Solid Edge.
  • Demonstrated success managing engineering projects from initiation through implementation.
  • Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma problem-solving methodologies.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for open-air refrigeration systems.
  • Basic understanding of refrigeration system operation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with electro-mechanical systems design or support.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD; ability to read, interpret, create, and revise mechanical drawings and electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with solid mechanical and electrical engineering fundamentals.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Comfortable spending significant time in a manufacturing and office environment.
