ELECTRICIAN- WEST COAST DISTRICT OFFICE , (FULL TIME 35-40 HOURS)

About the role

Serves as an electrician performing the full range of functions in connection with installation, modification, and repair of the Navy Exchange electrical systems and electrically operated equipment, supporting quality of life programs for active-duty military, retirees, reservists, and their families.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots, installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring systems, related switches, switch gear, distribution panels, outlet boxes, circuits, and a wide variety of electrical fixtures, motors, and electrically operated equipment.
• Follows maintenance schedules and inspections or work orders; performs maintenance services, diagnoses system or equipment malfunctions, and repairs as necessary.
• Inspects, maintains, cleans, repairs, tests, and adjusts electrical buzzer and bell circuits, light sockets, lighting fixtures, fans, switches, office and heating equipment, drills, grinders, and shop equipment.
• Tests circuits and equipment using voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, megger, and ohmmeter.
• Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduits; inserts, splices, and connects wires to fixtures, outlets, switches, receptacles, and power sources.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Effort

• Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions where parts of systems are in hard-to-reach places.
• Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds; occasionally may lift or carry items weighing over 20 pounds.

Working Conditions

Works inside and outside. Subject to contact with dirt, soiling of hands and clothing, shocks and burns from high voltage, cuts, and bruises.

Qualifications

General Experience

One year of experience that provided the knowledge and ability to perform basic electrical work such as repairing electrical wiring systems and switches.

Substitution of Education for Experience

One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience, up to a High School Diploma or GED for one year of general experience.

Specialized Experience

Five years of experience that provided the knowledge and ability to perform a full range of electrician functions in connection with installation, modification, and repair of electrical systems and electrically operated equipment.
