Electrician Senior - 2nd Shift
About the role
The City of Charlotte seeks a Senior Electrician to join the team at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. This role involves high-level work in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical and mechanical systems.
Responsibilities
- Installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Provide lead direction and training to other employees while working in the field.
- General building maintenance work incidental to above duties or necessary to keep buildings in working order.
- Compile lists of equipment, tools, and supplies needed.
- Operate cars, vans, bucket trucks, and other heavy equipment.
- Inspect assigned Airport construction projects. Coordinate work with contracted construction inspectors and tenants.
- Extensive knowledge of other airport systems including HVAC, plumbing, generators, data emergency systems, aircraft fueling systems, and electrical vehicle chargers.
- Subject to emergency call back for equipment repairs and inclement weather.

Qualifications
- High School diploma (or GED equivalent).
- Three years of related experience.
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
- State Issued Driver’s License.
Compensation
Commensurate with experience.

Skills
Thorough knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems including cabling and communications wiring.
North Carolina Electrical Code and building codes.
Skills to read and write sufficiently to complete paperwork and read schematic designs and blueprints.
Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships.
Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature.
Skills to calculate cost estimates and measure items.
Ability to perform journey level work on electrical and mechanical systems.
Read and write sufficiently to complete paperwork and read schematic designs and blueprints.
Lead others on the job site and act as leader in the field.
Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, and tenants, representing the airport in a professional manner.
Follow verbal and written instructions.
Complete computer based Work Orders and notes.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Spend about 70% of the time standing, bending, reaching, walking, and driving.
- The rest of the time includes a combination of sitting, twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling, lifting, shoveling, and carrying.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. About 5% of time can lift, pull, or carry up to 100 lbs a short distance, with another person.
- Works inside and outside. May include exposure to machinery, dust, chemicals, fumes, solvents, moving objects/vehicles, scaffolding, ladders, vibrating tools, excessive noise, large crowds, and slippery or uneven surfaces.
- Uses a variety of electrical and hand tools.
