About the role

BART is seeking a highly skilled, journey-level Electrician to join the Power and Mechanical team. This essential role is responsible for the integrity of the District's electrical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of both traction power systems (high-voltage vehicle propulsion) and standard facility electrical systems.
  • Execute complex modifications and upgrades to electrical equipment to ensure long-term operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
  • Focus exclusively on electrical trade work, distinguishing this role from general maintenance through its high-voltage technical requirements and specialized scope.
  • Ensure all District facilities remain fully operational by diagnosing and resolving electrical faults under general supervision.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the installation, maintenance and/or repair of varied electrical systems and equipment.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship in the electrical trade and a minimum of one (1) year of journey level experience that included installation, maintenance or repair of varied electrical systems and equipment.
  • Experience with high voltages and industrial or plant equipment are desirable.

Qualifications

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Class B driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be physically capable of working in confining workspaces and willing to work occasional emergency overtime.

Skills

  • Knowledge of methods, equipment, tools and materials used in the installation, maintenance and repair of varied industrial electrical equipment and systems.
  • Use and care of power and hand tools of the trade.
  • Use and operation of electrical measuring and testing devices.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques.
  • Shop arithmetic as required for the electrical trade.
  • Safe working practices.
  • Applicable codes and regulations.
