Electrician
About the role
This position is located in the Facilities Management Service (FMS) at the VA Western Colorado Health Care System (WCHCS), which provides comprehensive health care services to Veterans across Western Colorado and Eastern Utah. The primary purpose of the position is to perform a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks in the upkeep of buildings, grounds, exterior structures, utilities, and related fixtures.
Responsibilities
- Uses appropriate test equipment to prevent overloading.
- Utilizes all instruments correctly and equipment normally used by journeyman electricians.
- Able to select and use appropriate hand, and power tools.
- Maintain, repair, and install electrical and electronic systems and equipment.
- Install, modify, repair, troubleshoot, test and check for proper voltage capacity, loading of wires and equipment, and balancing of loads.
- Installs, modifies, repairs, troubleshoots, and tests new and existing substations.
- Utilizes protection gear and general personal protective equipment (PPE) for work on electrical systems.
- Traces hard-to-locate defects or problems associated with the completion of repairs and installations.
- Balances service loads over three phases.
- Pull conductors through raceway systems, phase out and make connections.
- Conducts annual tension/polarity tests on all electronic receptacles in patient care areas.
- Provides routing for conduits and wiring for electrical boxes, panels and equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance and testing of complex electrical systems, circuits, equipment, appliances, controls, components, lighting fixtures, emergency electrical systems and back-up electrical systems.
- Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshoots high voltage (4,160v) primary systems.
Requirements
- A Journeyman License is required.
