Electrician
About the role
An electrician is responsible for disassembling, assembling, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices, and other equipment to required specifications, meeting or exceeding Redpath and government regulations/standards in surface and underground operations.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, test, maintain, and repair ventilation fans, underground dewater pumps, lighting, electric/hydraulic mobile equipment, PLC and communication equipment, electronics, high and low voltage power and control systems, and ground fault monitor systems.
- Assist with repairs and maintenance to all underground sub-stations.
- Hang 4/0 cable overhead.
- Fabricate electrical panels and install electrical cables.
- Install electrical apparatus.
- Comprehend written and verbal instructions to perform duties safely and efficiently.
- Carry out planned maintenance as per the schedule.
- Ensure all spares and tools are available and serviceable.
- Work in excess of 40 hours a week, including overtime, day and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and shift rotations.
- Comply with Redpath Core Competencies.
- Train and mentor new employees and/or apprentices.
- Assist other job functions as required.
- Perform safe and timely emergency repairs to equipment.
Requirements
- Preferred minimum 3 years’ electrician experience in an underground mining environment.
- Must meet requirements to operate a company vehicle if needed, including a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
- Proficient in the use of computers and associated software.
- Capable of reading and understanding electrical drawings and schematics.
- Good knowledge and understanding of applicable electrical codes and regulations.
- Capable of reading and interpreting basic electrical instruments and testers.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, both verbal and written.
- NFPA70E certification required (based on site location).
- Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening, and physical.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
