Typical Duties

  • Complies with National Electrical Code and company standards when wiring equipment, following all applicable safety policies and codes.
  • Works standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring and electrical equipment.
  • Uses a variety of electrician's power and hand tools, measuring and testing instruments.
  • Works from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications.
  • Installs, maintains and operates electrical systems, equipment, and appliances, such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, electric gate crossings, signals, switches, or other equipment.
  • Locates and diagnoses problems in the electrical system or equipment.
  • Records and reports inspections, repairs performed and equipment replaced.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Develop, read, understand, and interpret schematics and blueprints and to do standard computations;
  • Knowledge of NEC and electrical/wiring principles;
  • building codes, local, state and federal regulations on electrical and fire life safety installation, repair, and maintenance;
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Act responsively to customer inquiries and requests;
  • Manage and accurately track material resources and time, and adapt to changing work priorities;
  • Work on complex projects with general direction and minimal guidance, to work independently and as a team, and to build effective working relationships;

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Technical/other training

Certificates or Licenses Required

  • The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements: State Electrician License

Physical Requirements

  • Using fine motor coordination, concentration, and good vision to differentiate between colors
  • Bending, kneeling, and stooping, and maneuvering in and around work areas
  • May lift or move boxes or equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Working in confined spaces
  • Climbing ladders

Work Environment

  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment with limited privacy and exposure to noise from others conducting business.
  • The remainder of work is performed on job sites in the field, driving to and from worksite.
  • Employees may be exposed to hazardous equipment, toxic substances, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
