Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
- Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.
- Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit. Pulls wiring through conduit. Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
- Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment. Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.
- Connects power cables to equipment, such as an electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads.
- Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as an ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
- Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
- Repairs faulty equipment or systems. Must be available for on-call and to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Qualifications, Education and Experience
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the essential duties summarized above and possess the skills and competencies summarized herein.
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year College or technical school plus a minimum of four (4) years industry-related experience and/or training.
- Current Texas Journeyman License required.
Additional Skills
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to operate power lift, pallet jack, production equipment such as liquid fillers or filling machines, tablet counters, bottle unscramblers, cappers, induction sealers, labelers, shrink-wrap machines, bundlers, liquid pumps, case packers and sealers.
Communication Skills
- Must be able to (i) read and understand technical documents, such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; (ii) effectively communicate information and respond to questions, orally and in writing, in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical and Critical Thinking Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both in American Standard and Metric Systems.
Physical Activities
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
