Responsibilities
- Repairs, installs, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment and appliances using necessary hand tools and testing instruments.
- Inspects and tests electrical lighting, signal, communication, fire alarm, and power circuits and equipment.
- Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment, using suitable testing instruments.
- Examines and tests elements of electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections, and worn motor brushes.
- Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures and appliances.
- Renews circuits either by isolating and cutting out defective wiring and replacing it with new wiring or by splicing ends of broken wires.
- Replaces defective equipment parts such as gears, bushings and bearings and other related electrical parts.
- Estimate materials needed and record time and materials expended on each work order.
- Minor supervisory duties when General Laborer or Student Worker is assigned to assist in the work of the Electrician.
- Install new and additional electrical work, remodeling, etc.
- Perform maintenance and repair of motors, relays, magnetic starters, transformers, etc.
- Install electrical conduit for installation of new equipment and wiring.
- Be capable of installing and interconnecting transformers and repairing, maintaining, altering or installing wiring, cabling, and electrical equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems.
- As required, be in an on call status and respond to emergencies on campus after hours.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills
- Proficient in High Voltage (480/277V), (208/110V) and Low Voltage (24V) Systems and Control Cabinets.
- Knowledge of Injection Molding Machines and Auxiliary Equipment – Dryers, Conveyers, Temperature Controllers, Granulators, and Blenders is preferred.
- Knowledge of Manufacturing Facility Infrastructure – Air Compressors, Air Dryers, Chilled Water Systems is preferred.
- Ability to Troubleshoot PLC Controllers, VFD Drives, Servo Motors, and Heating Components.
- Ability to Inspect electrical components, such as Safety Lighting, Exit Signs, Transformers, Circuit Breakers and on various types of manufacturing machinery per NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Identify electrical problems using a variety of testing methods and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong ability to read blueprints as well as use of hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to work at heights, and confined space conditions as required.
- Proficient Project Management skills to meet required project targets and deadlines.
- Strong ability to work with key vendors and equipment suppliers.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work closely with all team members.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting Service Training will be provided by Arburg – our Injection Molding Machine Supplier.
Requirements
- Possess thorough knowledge of codes pertaining to maintenance and installation of electrical systems.
- Have and maintain a current Journeyman License and Maintenance Electrician License.
- Good oral and written communications skills.
- Understand the electrical symbols and interpretation of building and electrical prints.
- High school, technical or trade school graduate.
- Six (6) years in electrical trade.
- Knowledge/Practice of all OSHA/NFPA standards.
Physical Demands
- Ability to individually lift a minimum of 50 lbs, and be able to, with assistance, move and transport materials and equipment weighing excess of 200 lbs.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces requiring bending or stooping for long periods and be able to work from ladders or elevated platforms.
- Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.
