DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The Electrician is responsible for skilled electrical work in the installation, maintenance, repair of electrical wiring systems, appliances and performs related assigned duties.
Essential Functions
- Repair, replace, and modify old service in order to update or conform to new requirements.
- Types of services encountered are: power, heat, ventilation or refrigeration and lights.
- Install wiring, outlets, fixtures, switches and circuit boards.
- Read and interpret schematics to determine standards, procedures to follow in repairing or installing electrical wiring, fixtures and appliances.
- Perform preventative maintenance by inspecting, cleaning, adjusting or replacing motors, generators, batteries, clocks, pumps and bells.
- Keep records of work performed and materials used
- Order material when needed for repairs and replacements.
- Test electrical apparatus with various meters to detect shorts, worn out or weak components or defective connections.
- May make emergency service calls.
- Follow current building codes adopted by the Gila River Indian Community.
Required Knowledge, Skill And Ability
- Knowledge of the tools, equipment and material common to the electrical trade.
- Knowledge of the codes, standards, regulations pertaining to the repair, modification and replacement of electrical services, fixtures and apparatus.
- Skill in the trade of an electrician.
- Knowledge of the various brands and types of electrically powered apparatus.
- Must be dependable, able to work under pressure and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to sketch circuits to create ideas for design of services.
- Ability to maintain safety standards in working with potentially dangerous high voltage services.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials and the general public.
- Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.
Required Education And Experience
- High School diploma or GED and a minimum of completion of a two (2) year electrical apprenticeship program and three (3) years as a journey level electrician or skilled electrician;
- Or High school diploma or GED and four (4) years commercial or institutional experience in electrical installation, maintenance or repair work.
Additional Requirement
- Required to obtain a Tribal Operators permit.
- Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the application.
