About the role
The City of Boise seeks an Industrial Electrician to support its Public Works utilities. This role involves troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing complex industrial electrical and control systems that ensure the safe and reliable operation of critical city infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Perform journey-level electrical work on industrial and commercial machinery including troubleshooting, conducting repairs, and installing and maintaining electrical systems.
- Conduct preventive maintenance procedures on instrumentation equipment.
- Examine equipment to determine whether it requires repair or replacement.
- Create, update, and archive electrical prints and schematics.
- Participate in safety meetings and training classes.
- Assist mechanics in maintaining and repairing wastewater valves, pumps, and other process equipment and facilities.
- Lead and train registered electrical apprentices on general assignments, proper electrical installations, and safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of experience in an industrial plant, performing journey-level work installing, maintaining, and conducting repairs on industrial electrical systems.
- Journey-level Electrician license issued by the State of Idaho.
- Valid state-issued driver's license.
- First Aid and CPR certifications.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree.
- Idaho Master Electrician license and 5 years of industrial plant or wastewater treatment plant electrical experience.
- Functional knowledge of confined space procedures and rescue.
- Idaho Wastewater Treatment Class I License or Operator in Training (OIT).
- Knowledge of reduced voltage starters, medium voltage (4,160 volts) and high voltage (34,500 volt) electrical equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of phone systems.
Skills
- Ability to test instruments such as multimeters, power monitors, ammeters, meggers, and line tracers.
- Ability to act as a signing journey-level electrician for permits and inspections.
- Ability to fully utilize, read, update, and create complex electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, prints, plans, and drawings.
- Ability to accurately troubleshoot and repair complex motor controls and a large variety of critical electro-mechanical systems.
- Ability to repair and replace defective parts in motors, generators, pumps, relays, switch gears, controllers, motor control centers, power monitors, HVAC controls, emergency and alarm systems, and other electrical equipment and components.
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.

Schedule
The Industrial Electrician will work a 4-day, 10-hour work schedule.
