About the role

The A.C. Electrician position at Metra is part of the Engineering Department, which oversees the maintenance and repair of Metra’s electrical infrastructure, including HVAC systems, overhead/underground distribution systems, and electric snowmelter controls. Reporting to the A.C. Supervisor, this role involves performing all aspects of electrical work, including utility pole and steel structure aerial lineman tasks, installation and repair of HVAC systems, and maintenance of various electrical components.

Responsibilities

• Install and repair HVAC systems
• Perform construction, maintenance, repairs, and wiring of medium voltage electrical switchgear, HVAC systems, electric snowmelter controls and equipment, A.C. overhead/underground distribution systems up to 12KV A.C., and other electrical equipment used in buildings, shops, commuter stations, and yards
• Process paperwork and replenish inventory and materials
• Subject to emergency after-hours call outs and overtime assignments

Requirements

• Must possess a bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, be a journeyman Electrician, or have a minimum of four (4) years of equivalent experience
• Able to climb ladders, structures, poles, and work in aerial positions from a line belt and bucket truck
• Able to lift, carry, and move up to 150 lbs. with assistance
• Possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) class “B” with an air brakes endorsement (candidates must obtain a CDL Permit within 14 days and the CDL within 60 days of hire)
• Able to pass the Metra M.O.W. Rules within 60 days of hire and the Metra Roadway Worker Rules within 30 days of hire
• Available to work a 40-hour week, be available on call 24/7, 365 days/year, including weekends and holidays

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must be able to pass background checks and drug screenings
• Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and medical exams

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Good communication and teamwork abilities

Pay

This is a Union position. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Schedule

This position is subject to an emergency after-hours call out and assignment to overtime. Employees may perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
