About the role
The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) III contract at the NASA Glenn Research Center, Neil A. Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky, Ohio is seeking Electrical Test Engineers with expertise in Power Systems and Controls.
Responsibilities
- Study, design, implement, and manage a broad range of electrical, instrumentation, control, and data systems for facilities, test-related apparatus, and specialty hardware and software for the Propulsion Test Complex (PTC).
- Develop electronic integrated circuits, controls, data and instrumentation hardware, subsystems, and systems for specialty process systems, aerospace hardware, and test rigs.
- Integrate pressure, temperature, cryogenic temperature sensors, flow, stress-strain, proximity and level measurement devices into process systems and test hardware.
- Provide technical expertise for programming, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting PC/Unix based systems, data acquisition systems, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
- Integrate controls and instrumentation into PLC hardware and software.
- Design and specify instrumentation, signal conditioning equipment, and integrate with data acquisition systems.
- Lead the installation, checkout, calibration, troubleshooting, and operation of electrical, controls, data, and instrumentation hardware and systems.
- Prepare purchase requisitions and hardware/software specifications for electronic/electrical equipment.
- Evaluate vendor proposals and provide technical recommendations for procurement.
- Support large and small-scale test operations, including operations of control, instrumentation, and data systems.
- Design and maintain communication networks using TCP/IP.
- Support training of other engineers and technicians.
- Develop plans and requirements for upgrading and maintaining facility Data Acquisition Systems and software.
- Support special tasks involving detailed engineering analyses.
- Develop presentations and present at or contribute to design reviews, safety reviews, and other technical presentations.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer, Electrical, or related engineering discipline.
- Additional years of related experience may count as educational equivalence.
- Specialized knowledge/experience in one or more aspects related to Electrical, Electronic, Data Systems, or Computer Engineering.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Direct knowledge of C++, FORTRAN, Visual Basic, AUTOCAD, MATHCAD, and SPICE.
- Familiarity with MS Office products.
- Direct knowledge of National Electric Code and familiarity with Hazardous Area and general OSHA safety classifications.
- Direct knowledge of ISA Standards where applicable.
- Understanding of cryogenics, power distribution systems up to 480 VAC, basic semiconductor device theory, steady state and transient data acquisition systems.
- Understanding of specialized devices such as limit switches, pressure, vacuum and flow switches, proximity detectors, flame and combustible gas detectors, photocells, thermocouples, transducers, etc.
