You will work closely with design, controls, systems, manufacturing, and reliability teams to ensure battery systems meet electrical, functional, performance, safety, and durability requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute electrical test and validation plans for battery cells, modules, packs, and battery systems.
  • Translate system requirements and specifications into practical, measurable test cases and validation procedures.
  • Define test methods, instrumentation, data acquisition requirements, test fixtures, and test setups.
  • Perform hands-on testing of battery and battery-system hardware in laboratory and test environments.
  • Conduct functional, performance, characterization, environmental, durability, and abuse-related testing as appropriate for the product.
  • Develop and execute test procedures for electrical, thermal, communications, protection, and BMS-related functions.
  • Configure and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, power supplies, electronic loads, battery cyclers, data acquisition systems, oscilloscopes, CAN tools, and other test equipment.
  • Analyze test data to identify trends, anomalies, failures, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead electrical failure investigations and root-cause analysis, working collaboratively with design and systems engineers to identify and resolve issues.
  • Develop automated test scripts, data-processing tools, or other engineering tools to improve test efficiency and repeatability.
  • Establish and maintain test methods, procedures, equipment configurations, and validation documentation.
  • Support correlation between laboratory, prototype, production, and field test results.
  • Evaluate test results against requirements and provide clear technical recommendations and conclusions.
  • Participate in design and engineering reviews from a testability, validation, and system-performance perspective.
  • Identify gaps in test coverage and recommend improvements to validation strategies.
  • Support prototype builds, test readiness reviews, and hardware bring-up activities.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues involving electrical hardware, BMS behavior, controls, communications, sensors, and system integration.
  • Ensure testing is performed safely and in accordance with applicable laboratory, electrical, and battery safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience, preferably involving test, validation, verification, or development of complex electrical systems.
  • Hands-on experience developing and executing electrical test plans and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals, including DC power systems, voltage/current measurement, power distribution, grounding, isolation, and electrical protection.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and electro-mechanical systems using laboratory test equipment.
  • Experience with data acquisition, instrumentation, and analysis of electrical test data.
  • Experience working with battery systems, BMS, energy storage systems, power electronics, or other high-power electrical systems.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, and system requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause-analysis skills.
  • Ability to clearly document test methods, results, failures, and technical conclusions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • Preferred qualifications include experience testing lithium-ion battery cells, modules, packs, or battery energy storage systems.
  • Experience with battery cyclers, electronic loads, power supplies, environmental chambers, DAQ systems, or high-voltage test equipment.
  • Experience with CAN/CAN FD, LIN, Ethernet, or other automotive/industrial communications protocols.
  • Experience testing and validating BMS functionality, including voltage/current measurement, SOC/SOH estimation, balancing, protection functions, fault handling, and diagnostics.
  • Experience with automated test systems and scripting languages such as Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar.
  • Experience with requirements management and test-management tools.
  • Experience performing electrical safety, insulation resistance, dielectric withstand, leakage current, or isolation testing.
  • Familiarity with battery standards and regulatory requirements such as UL, IEC, ISO, SAE, or UN transportation requirements.
  • Experience with high-voltage battery systems and associated safety practices.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), reliability testing, or accelerated life testing.
