Electrical Sustaining Engineer

U.S. citizenship is required due to U.S. government contracts and security requirements.

About the role

As a Sustaining Electrical Engineer, you will work on challenging projects for Busek’s Electric Propulsion Systems, contributing directly to space flight programs for NASA, other government agencies, and the commercial space sector. This role involves 20% travel to attend design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and provide flight hardware support at customer and supplier locations. You will collaborate across product development cycles from concepts to flight.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with customers, suppliers, project managers, and subcontractors to lead robust space electronics development.
• Work with interdisciplinary teams to evaluate product design limits, reliability, design margins, and possible failure modes and effects.
• Refine test plans/procedures with designers and test engineers to address infant mortality, review design and interface requirements, and support contract manufacturers during volume production.

Requirements

• Experience supporting customer/supplier design reviews, technical interchange meetings, failure investigations, and root cause analysis, with strong data analysis and presentation skills.
• Background in analog, digital, and mixed-signal design.
• Good communication and collaboration skills for working with internal and external interdisciplinary teams.
• Basic understanding of power converter concept of operation to debug and optimize electric propulsion systems.
• Experience with circuit simulations (e.g., LTSpice).

Preferred Qualifications

• Detailed understanding of power converter design, layout, control parameters, and application.
• Strong understanding of MIL-STD-461 engineering standards.
• Prior electrical engineering experience in an aerospace environment.
• Expertise in Altium Designer, including schematic capture, PCB layout principles, and library management.
• Experience supporting RIDs and root-cause investigations for non-conformances.
