Electrical Project Engineer

About the role
This opportunity entails producing and modifying design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications for assigned projects. You will consult with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design, and delivery while applying engineering techniques and procedures for projects of varying size and complexity. The role involves addressing design-related issues, creative problem-solving, and completing tasks to meet project schedules. You may also mentor and train junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Plan and distribute discipline-specific work while adhering to schedule and budget on projects.
- Assist in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
- Develop scope of work and level of effort for projects and assignments within the discipline.
- Oversee completeness and accuracy of the project team’s work within the technical discipline.
- Guide and mentor the team to meet overall project objectives.
- Coordinate technical aspects of the project with client counterparts and teaming partners.
- Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
- Design low-voltage power distribution systems, street lighting, traffic signals, area lighting, pedestrian lighting, and aesthetic lighting.
- Design power distribution and control systems for movable bridges.
- Prepare electrical engineering designs responsive to project needs.
- Schedule and perform quality control duties for project team members.
- Coordinate with contractors, construction engineers, consulting engineers, and utility personnel.
- Conduct reviews and recommend approval of construction change orders, shop drawings, and change orders.
- Control costs and ensure quality control within the discipline.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of the design team’s work.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
- PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience.
Skills
- Understands impacts of decisions on technical design and work planning.
- Coordinates work planning and design effectively across multiple technical disciplines.
- Prepares high-quality deliverables on time and within budget and scope.
- Electrical Engineering design for Civil Transportation projects.
- Experience with AGI32 Lighting Software.
- Completing plans, specifications, and estimating construction packages for municipal and DOT clients.
What We Prefer
- Master’s degree in Engineering.
- 8 years of relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Experience with roadway and highway lighting.
Pay
The approximate pay range for Illinois is $105,590.66 - $165,154.61. Actual compensation will depend on factors including qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and physical work location within the state.
