Principal Responsibilities
- Lead electrical system design efforts, including detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards
- Partner with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build strong professional relationships
- Support consulting project execution through project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives
- Document design decisions, client instructions, project progress, percent complete, and fee expended
- Analyze engineering problems and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical, efficient solutions
- Conduct in-process reviews of electrical designs, calculations, and specifications, and apply IMEG quality control processes
- Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, and contribute to research and innovation efforts within IMEG
- Prioritize safety by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with electrical systems
- Cookordination with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions
- Identify potential project issues, seek guidance from the Project Manager, and support projects through bidding and construction administration
Required Qualifications And Skills
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
- Engineering In Training (EIT) Certification preferred
- 3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry OR Associates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred
- 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry
- Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
- Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings
- Proficient with industry standard engineering software and tools including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, Visual Lighting, or other; power system analysis and design software such as SKM/PTW, Easy Power, or other; and proficiency in the use of BIM software and CTC Revit Add In Tools
- Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards
- Proficiency in energy compliance software such as ComCheck; Adobe or Bluebeam Revu; the use of reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
- Proficiency in Smart Engineering Design Assist (SET) Tools within Revit for electrical calculations, coordination, properties, etc.
- Knowledge of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS
- Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
