Electrical Proejct Engineer
About the role
The Electronic Project Engineer (EPE) will serve as the primary liaison and engineering lead between Product Managers, factory-located engineering, factory manufacturing, software, hardware, Design Quality Assurance, and other teams. The role owns the design, integration, and management of multiple projects through Johnson’s Key Technology, Key Component, and New Product Development processes, including scope, specification, schedule, cost, quality, hardware, software, integration, POC, and communication management. The position requires electronic technical expertise and strong organizational skills to lead a team in developing, validating, and launching successful, quality products. The ideal candidate aligns and motivates cross-functional teams, overcomes obstacles collaboratively, and drives product improvement and excellence throughout the development process. This is a non-supervisory role with high visibility within the company.
Responsibilities
- Act as project manager coordinating a global, cross-functional team to balance design, manufacturing, quality, cost, and schedule requirements
- Function as the technical leader for design and market requirements, communicating engineering product specifications to the project team
- Serve as the communication bridge between North America Marketing and Asia-based factory engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams on technical issues and customer requirements
- Develop and execute engineering tests and test protocols
- Lead cross-functional meetings to discuss project status, requirements, and set priorities
- Conduct technical design reviews and other engineering meetings to support product development
- Champion continuous product improvement, value engineering, and design for manufacturability
- Lead project planning/definition, DFMEA, design analysis, and verification efforts
- Ensure adherence to the NPD process, including phase gate/milestone management to meet scope, cost, quality, specification, task execution, validation, tracking, and documentation requirements
- Report and document all changes and risks, and lead the team to develop mitigation solutions
- Support production transition by reviewing quality and inspection data, performing product sample reviews, making design decisions, and identifying value-add/value-engineering opportunities for cost and manufacturing efficiency
- Troubleshoot the introduction of new products into mass production, including developing functional requirements and test plans
- Travel internationally approximately 2 to 4 times to facilities in Taiwan, China, and/or Vietnam
- Conduct regular communication with overseas teams outside typical office hours
- Build trust and cohesion across the team
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited institution in Electronic Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Embedded or Electronic Engineering and electronic project management
- Experience and/or training in systems engineering is a plus
- Experience with embedded design, embedded software development, and debugging
- Experience designing and validating electronic schematics and providing solutions
- Experience with PCB layout and soldering
- Experience with EMC/EMI requirements and mitigation techniques
- Experience with embedded system integration and best practices
