Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

About the Role

Full-time Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Design Engineer position responsible for developing and designing electrical, instrumentation, and control systems—both analog and digital—from concept through final and issued for construction (IFC) design. Systems are typically found in commercial nuclear power plants, DOE facilities or laboratories, and/or chemical and process plants.

This role also provides engineering design and troubleshooting support during construction, manufacture, factory acceptance testing (FAT), startup/test, and commissioning phases.

Responsibilities

• Develop and design instrumentation and control systems within the constraints and rigor of a NQA-1 QA Program.
• Prepare design and procurement specifications/data sheets, control philosophy and control narratives, logic diagrams, and loop diagrams.
• Review, develop, and/or utilize process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), design basis documents, process control narratives, and safety analysis reports (e.g., PSAR, FSAR) as the basis for design.
• Provide engineering support during construction, manufacture, FAT, startup/test, and commissioning phases.
• Prepare all design products, including calculations, reports, and briefings.
• Collaborate with managers, engineers, and designers across all engineering disciplines and individuals with varying experience levels.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is a strong plus.
• Design experience on existing Light Water Reactors (LWR), High Temperature Gas Reactors (HTGR), or Next Generation IV nuclear reactors, particularly in reactor control and protection, radiation monitoring, or secondary control systems.
• Experience selecting instrumentation and preparing design/procurement specifications.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Experience with PLC programming is a plus.
