About the role
The Journeyman Electrician plans, lays out, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment. You will also direct and train Electrician Helpers.
Responsibilities
- Work safely around electrical hazards and select proper applications for different voltages (e.g., 24, 120, 240, 480, 600, 12,800, 61kV).
- Use hand, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools safely.
- Read and interpret P&IDs, blueprints, isometrics, arrangement drawings, details, specifications, and erection manuals.
- Apply knowledge of the National Electric Code and Lock-out Tag-out procedures.
- Identify, measure, cut, thread, and install conduit, cable tray, and hardware.
- Pull cable and wire through conduit, fabricate/install hangars and brackets, and mount junction boxes.
- Figure offsets, bend and install conduit, and perform cad weld grinding.
- Identify wire/cable types, sizes, insulation, and color codes; read wire/cable schedules.
- Identify and use electrical meters and instruments.
- Install ground lugs and lugs on 4/0 and larger cable.
- Perform other duties as assigned by trade and supervisor.
Requirements
- Four (4) years minimum heavy industrial field experience as an Electrician.
- Maintain a current State Electrical license where required.
- Completion of welding certification(s) required by company and/or client.
- Own a locking toolbox and tools necessary to perform the job.
- Successfully complete all required pre-hire requirements.
Physical/Site Requirements
- Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 45 pounds.
- Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
- Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age.
- Work up to a 12-hour shift in varying temperature extremes and outdoor conditions.
- Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Wear PPE footwear and prescription safety glasses or eye shields.
