About the role

This position provides technical services in the electrical discipline to fossil and hydroelectric generating facilities within the Southern Company. Responsibilities include problem resolution, routine testing, design review, checkout and startup of new equipment, technical consulting, and unplanned/emergency callouts (afterhours).

This role supports several generation sites in the central region of Georgia and requires approximately 25% occasional overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain technical proficiency in electrical engineering areas, including excitation system calibration, low/medium/high voltage switchgear, electrical control, and protective relaying.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with plant employees at all levels.
  • Establish a precedent for solving technical problems in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Serve as a technical and professional role model for other engineers.
  • Maintain awareness of the financial impact of technical services support.
  • Take an active role in the development of new employees.

  • Prioritize safety and maintain a strong personal safety record.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (for Engineer role) or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology (for Analyst role).
  • Broad general knowledge of power plant systems.
  • Proficiency in excitation system calibration and problem resolution.
  • Proficiency in low, medium, and high voltage switchgear concepts and designs.
  • Proficiency in switchgear electrical control and applications.
  • Working knowledge of protective relaying application and philosophy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with plant employees at all working and management levels.
  • Ability to manage time properly and handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Customer-oriented work ethic.
