Electrical Estimator

About the role

The Estimator will analyze construction blueprints to determine the quantity and cost of materials, fixtures, and labor required for each bid. You will assist or lead team bids, handle client follow-up, and support business development efforts alongside senior estimators.

Location: Remote, hybrid, or on-site at Indianapolis, IN; Denver, CO; or Charlotte, NC.

Responsibilities

• Create and revise estimates, proposals, and change orders for current and prospective projects.
• Collaborate with Preconstruction and Operations to ensure accuracy in labor, time, and material costs.
• Identify project cost trends to support management in cost reduction and process improvements.
• Facilitate project handoff from estimating to project management once a project is awarded.
• Request and review material and equipment quotes from vendors, ensuring specification adherence and accuracy.
• Perform takeoffs for individually assigned projects and team bids, including specification review.
• Lead or assist team bids by fully understanding RFPs, client bid breakdowns, and bid documents; delegate tasks as needed.
• Perform design/build bids, identifying and quantifying project unknowns or ambiguities; collaborate with Engineering to finalize costs and design.
• Conduct weekly outreach and follow-up on pending bids.
• Bid a volume of $6M–9M individually on a monthly basis with reliable accuracy and proactive clarification of ambiguities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs.

Requirements

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field (electrical engineering, construction management, etc.) or an Electrical Journeyman’s License.
• Minimum of 5 years of electrical industry estimating experience.
• Experience in mission critical, large commercial, or water treatment projects preferred.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
• In-depth knowledge of the National Electric Code and electrical theory.
• Proficiency in reading construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and data sheets.
• Experience in layout of electrical equipment and systems, including design/build concepts such as electrical one-lines and feeder/branch circuit analysis.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to explain software and electrical concepts clearly.
• Effective time management, organization, and ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously.
• Self-motivated and adaptable to changes in business strategies.

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
