About the role
The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for obtaining, tracking, and negotiating subcontract bids and project budgets. They will prepare and present comprehensive estimate documentation, read and interpret plans, proposals, and other documentation to create bids, analyze data to reduce gaps between estimates and actual costs, and partner with customers to define project scope, proactively resolve challenges, and strategically negotiate pricing.
Responsibilities
- Obtain, track, and negotiate subcontract bids and project budgets
- Prepare and present comprehensive estimate documentation
- Read and interpret plans, proposals, and other documentation to create bids
- Analyze data to reduce gaps between estimates and actual costs
- Partner with customers to define project scope, proactively resolve challenges, strategically negotiate pricing, and build lasting professional relationships that drive mutual success
- Conduct thorough market research to produce accurate, complete, and competitive pricing that positions projects for success
- Review completed estimates and proposals for thoroughness, accuracy, value engineering alternatives, and compliance with strategic goals
- Strategically track and forecast bid outcomes to optimize pipeline and drive business growth
- Prepare proposals for budgetary and conceptual estimates and for strategic opportunities
- Attend pre-bid meetings and/or meet with customers to identify project scope
- Prepare or supervise the preparation of bid documents and ensure timely delivery
- Attend bid de-scope meetings and ensure completion of open items
- Schedule and attend job turnover meetings and assure preparation of job turnover meeting materials
- Lead the analysis of job labor data from operations to enhance the estimating database and continuously improve field productivity insights
- Schedule and attend project postmortems and catalogue historical information
- Review material pricing provided by purchasing and suppliers and update the estimating database accordingly
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of electrical estimating experience with medium to large commercial projects
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and specialized estimating software (experience with Accubid preferred)
- Prioritized ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while consistently meeting critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
