Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for a variety of projects, at varying levels of design including conceptual estimates, SD/DD/CD estimates, bid proposals, and Guaranteed Maximum Prices (GMPs)
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project goals and budgets
- Review architectural and engineering drawings to determine project requirements
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry costs, material pricing, and labor rates
- Prepare detailed and accurate electrical cost estimates across all phases of design, including conceptual, SD, DD, CD, bid, and GMP deliverables
- Develop and manage electrical scope narratives, assumptions, qualifications, and exclusions to support estimates and risk mitigation
- Analyze electrical systems including: Utility service and coordination, Medium- and low-voltage distribution, Emergency/standby power (generators, paralleling gear, UPS), Lighting and lighting controls, Grounding, bonding, and life safety systems, Low-voltage systems (Divisions 27/28) as required for scope alignment
- Perform quantity takeoffs and pricing for major electrical components including switchgear, feeders, branch distribution, equipment connections, lighting, and low voltage systems
- Evaluate subcontractor proposals, conduct bid leveling, and support procurement strategy for electrical trades
- Review design documents to identify scope gaps, inconsistencies, and cost/schedule impacts
- Lead electrical pricing for large-scale projects such as healthcare, life sciences, residential, data centers, higher education, and commercial buildings
- Cookordinate with estimating team members across MEP trades to ensure complete and coordinated system pricing
- Maintain and update electrical cost databases, unit pricing, and historical project benchmarks
- Identify value engineering opportunities, constructability improvements, and cost-saving alternatives
- Support master planning, feasibility studies, and infrastructure assessments for electrical systems
Qualifications
- BS or MS in Engineering or Construction Management with a minimum of 3 years of experience in estimating field
- 10+ years of experience in construction estimating (contractor or CM/GC environment preferred)
- Strong knowledge of electrical trade, with some experience with other MEP systems (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing)
- Familiarity with decarbonization and sustainable construction techniques
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
