Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS) is seeking engineering, professional, technical, and administrative support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor, and will take day-to-day direction from Y-12 staff. Pay, benefits, and employment functions are provided by AIS.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting in Bentley MicroStation: one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, lighting/power plans, installation details, Instrumentation and Controls Diagrams, conduit/cable schedules, fire alarm, and communication drawings.
  • Preparing data sheets, specifications, and walkdown reports.
  • Collaborating with electrical engineers and other CAD drafters within the same work group.
  • Supporting construction and operational activities related to design outputs.
  • Performing field walkdowns, sometimes in radiologically contaminated areas.
  • Little to no (<5%) travel expected.

Schedule

Typical work schedule: Monday–Thursday, 10-hour days (4/10 schedule).

Requirements

  • Associate’s or higher degree in a technical field and 6–10 years of related experience, or high school diploma and 13–19 years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced knowledge in area of expertise and associated equipment, processes, or systems.
  • Ability to obtain a Q-clearance.
  • Experience with low and medium voltage power distribution and industrial control systems.
  • Experience with NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and UL508A.
  • U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age, and ability to meet pre-employment requirements including physicals, drug screen, and background investigation.

Special Requirements

  • Pre-employment drug screen for external applicants.
  • Job-related pre-placement medical examinations may be required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy clearance; position may be designated as Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing, requiring participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.

This position is contingent upon contract award and funding; selected applicants may be hired but cannot begin work until funding is confirmed.
