Electrical Engineering Section Manager - Hypersonics

About the role

Leidos’ Defense Systems is seeking a talented Electrical Engineering Section Manager for its Hypersonics line of business. The selected candidate will support the Common Hypersonic Glide Body program (CHGB), the Army’s #1 priority for strategic weapons capability for long-range precision fires. This role operates in a cutting-edge field, countering and advancing beyond adversaries' technological developments.

Leidos Defense Systems Sector delivers enterprise and mission IT, large-scale intelligence systems, command and control, geospatial and data analytics, cybersecurity, logistics, training, and intelligence analysis and operations support for customers with “can’t fail” missions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team of engineers, including conducting one-on-one meetings, providing performance feedback, and facilitating career development discussions.
• Plan and coordinate team objectives in alignment with program and organizational goals.
• Identify and remove blockers to keep the team productive and mission-focused.
• Support staffing activities, including interviewing and onboarding new engineers.
• Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and mission execution.
• Balance technical engineering responsibilities (~90% of time) with direct line management responsibilities (~10% of time).
• Read engineering drawings, electrical schematics, cable/wiring diagrams, and corresponding work instructions to produce complex assemblies and provide feedback to program leadership.
• Perform requirement decomposition and provide rapid integration and troubleshooting support for system-level integration.
• Conduct electronics integration, test, and troubleshooting with hands-on laboratory experience using instrumentation, test equipment, and test methods (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators).
• Develop test procedures and process post-test data.
• Support environmental testing and apply knowledge of analog, digital, and power circuit design.
• Document designs, assist with Technical Data Packages (TDP), and support production and test of avionics.
• Communicate effectively within a team environment, including test and manufacturing engineers.
• Understand cost and schedule impacts associated with engineering deliverables.
• Mentor, coach, and develop team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school (or High School diploma with 9+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree).
• BS with 5+ years of relevant experience or MS with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong attention-to-detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Self-starter with an eagerness for continuous learning and professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active DoD Secret clearance.
• 2+ years of experience supervising or leading teams or projects.
• Prior experience with direct reports or formal people management responsibilities.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineers.
• Experience with manufacturing and production of avionics components.
• Knowledge of test development to support troubleshooting hardware failures.
• Experience with National Instruments Software.
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-810 Test Environment.
• Familiarity with ASME and IEEE standards.
• Experience supporting DoD programs related to missile systems, reentry vehicles, or hypersonic technologies.
• Prior work in assembly, integration, or testing of missile systems.
• Experience supporting rapid development, prototyping, or fast-paced engineering programs.

Pay

Pay Range: $107,900.00 - $195,050.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
