Electrical Engineering Project Team Lead
About the Role
Our Combat Mission Systems business is seeking a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the design, development, packaging, integration, and testing efforts of military electrical/electronic systems and components onto Combat Vehicle platforms. This role offers the opportunity to develop cutting-edge solutions and lead a cross-functional Integrated Product Team (IPT), working with industry experts and accessing development opportunities to keep your skills sharp.
This role requires regular presence in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. The incumbent must be able to access and safely navigate production areas which may include climbing, kneeling, stooping, and working in confined spaces. Compliance with all requirements, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), is mandatory.
Responsibilities
- Manage the research, planning, design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical/electronic systems, sub-systems, and components.
- Plan and manage internal and external resources, including virtual team members across multiple engineering sites, ensuring project obligations and objectives are met.
- Prepare, monitor, and control budgets and schedules, reporting on technical, cost, and schedule status.
- Regularly prepare, present, and defend project technical results and recommendations to external customers and internal high-level management.
- Participate in formal technical reviews with customers and internal technical reviews with peers and subordinates.
- Guide the preparation of assigned proposals, including responsibility for technical and cost content.
- Conduct or lead portions of requirements development, architecture development, interface management, verification, and validation.
- Evaluate vendor capabilities, technologies, services, and ability to deliver required products or services.
- Manage specific technology initiatives involving Independent Research and Development (IR&D) or Contract Research and Development (CR&D) funds.
- Recommend design approaches for new or improved products and processes.
- Provide engineering consultation to other technical groups.
- Analyze and interpret design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and/or test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements.
- Conduct and support subsystem and system integration and verification activities, manufacturing and test planning, and failure analysis.
- Assess project risk areas and develop risk mitigation plans.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers.
- Travel to military test sites to support testing.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field and eight years of relevant experience, or six years of relevant experience with a master's degree.
- Ability to plan (budget and schedule), monitor, and lead multiple technical projects concurrently.
- Highly self-motivated with strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience in creating, reading, and comprehending schematics and interconnect drawings.
- Ability to create and manage interface control documents and component specifications.
- Ability to solve complex technical problems.
- Experience operating in cross-functional engineering tasks (electrical, mechanical, systems) with virtual team members.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey data, information, and technical results to customers.
Preferred Skills
- Systems Engineering, Life Cycle Management, and manufacturing knowledge.
- Low voltage (28Vdc) power distribution and management (Solid State Power Controller/Programmable Power Controller).
- Working knowledge of design for environmental qualification including EMI/EMC design and qualification principles.
- Experience with SAE J1939, CANBus, MIL-STD-1553, 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet Protocols and equipment.
- Vehicle Signal management (Sensor/Transducer Input/Output signal management) including support for diagnostics and prognostics.
- Integration of military communication/antenna systems including BFT, SINCGARS, DAGR, CREW2.
- Experience using lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, CANbus analyzers, data acquisition) for test and verification.
- Experience with engineering design of wiring harnesses and cable assemblies for military vehicles.
- Control Account Management experience.
- Supplier management experience.

Pay
Full-Time Salary Range: $132,962 - $226,035. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
Schedule
We operate on a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off) and utilize a hybrid approach that balances on-site collaboration and onboarding support with the flexibility of remote work.
