About the role
WSP’s Power and Energy team is seeking a Full-Time Electrical Engineering (ESSP) Intern to work out of our Overland Park, KS office. Additional locations may be considered. This temporary position is part of the WSP Summer Internship Program, a 12-week program starting May 17th, 2027, with flexible individual start dates. WSP combines global expertise in power delivery, generation, and program management, recently expanded through the acquisition of POWER Engineers, Inc. and TRC Companies, to shape evolving energy systems worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
- Learn basic principles of Electrical Engineering.
- Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
- Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
- Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Note: There is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.
Requirements
- Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering (or related) Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
- Must be 18 or older.
- Demonstrated interest in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a strong desire to advance skills aligned with WSP’s work and projects.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and related tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship experience.
- Leadership involvement on campus.
