Description
Northrop Grumman, a pioneer in technological advancements, seeks to hire an Electrical Engineer (Design & Analysis) – Level 5 to support the Ground Weapons System (GWS) program. This role is critical for the development of hardware items that directly contribute to the design and development of the GWS capability for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
Essential Functions
- Review suppliers "as-planned", "as-designed", and "as-built" documentation.
- Develop and implement modeling solutions, conduct trade studies and evaluation of system and subsystem performance.
- Frequently collaborate with technical leadership on system requirements generation and associated flow down, subsystem design/analysis, and subsystem performance verification including lab and flight testing.
- Perform the test design process along with the design, analysis and fabrication of specialty test equipment required for environmental testing and handling.
- Manage the internal & external electrical interfaces (such as data, power, RF) and develop the corresponding system-level interconnect/block diagrams, grounding diagrams, electrical schematics and global connectivity list for the weapon system.
- Manage hardware command and telemetry implementation (e.g., develop and coordinate calibration and conversion curves for analog telemetry in coordination with subsystem engineers, verify electrical/software implementation).
- Verify electrical connectivity implementation (e.g., verify electrical harness implementation, safety-critical circuit segregation, support peer-reviews).
- Develop and evaluate electrical system architecture alternatives in concert with the broader systems engineering effort to select an electrical-system architecture that meets the customer's needs. Drive open design to completion and solve design issues (e.g., propose solutions, support mass reduction initiatives).
- Perform electrically focused requirement analysis and decomposition as part of the systems engineering translation of customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 12 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 10 years of related experience, or 8 years of related experience with a PhD.
- Extensive Electrical Engineering background with an understanding of analog and digital electronics, power systems, Command and Data Handling, Signal Integrity, and Grounding schema.
- Experience executing specialized electrical engineering analysis (Sneak Circuit, Worst Case, Bent Pin, Power/Grounding, Derating, and Electrical Stress analysis).
- Technical experience in systems engineering and/or integration execution.
- Strong electrical engineering design and analysis skills in the application of test hardware design along with the implementation of the design review process (PDR & CDR).
- Review suppliers "as-planned", "as-designed", and "as-built" documentation (e.g., interface control document, derating analysis, worst case analysis, qualification test plan and procedure, acceptance test plan and procedure, test report).
- Working experience utilizing Sneak Circuit Analysis Tools (SCAT).
- Experience with Siemens Xpedition, Altium Designer, or a similar development suite for Schematic Capture, CCA Layout, and DRC.
- Experience with Spice, MathCAD, MATLAB, or other simulation tool suites.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills; strong interpersonal and analytic skills; works well in a team environment within all levels of the test integrated team structure.
- Intermediate knowledge in Reliability and Maintainability discipline.
- Intermediate background or understanding of Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) analysis.
- Applicants must demonstrate ability to think critically and capture concepts in work products, presentations, and discussions.
- Capable of working both independently and within a team environment.
- Absolutely must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time to support business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- GMD/GWS experience.
- Two years of experience within Reliability and Maintainability discipline.
- Experience with risk analysis and risk management.
- Experience with software architecture and design.
- Experience with the development and verification of RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) requirements.
- Experience with systems engineering tools such as DOORS.
