Electrical Engineer Intern/Co-op Summer 2027

About the role
This co-op position provides hands-on training in electrical design for students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Architectural Engineering. Co-ops will work full-time (40 hrs./week) onsite in the Columbus office, starting May 2027 through Summer 2027, with flexible dates aligned to the school calendar. The role offers a competitive hourly pay rate and eligibility for overtime pay. Our goal is to provide multiple co-op rotations with potential consideration for full-time employment upon graduation.
This is a unique opportunity to work on challenging and complex MEP projects while learning from Professional Engineers. Co-ops will gain industry-competitive skills in AutoCAD and Revit, producing real construction drawings for CMTA projects.
Responsibilities
- Learn and implement electrical system basics, including power, power distribution, lighting & controls, and fire alarm systems for new construction and renovation projects while supporting the engineering team.
- Produce detailed layout and equipment details of electrical systems for buildings.
- Create one-line diagrams and schematics.
- Assist the design team in assembling organized sets of drawings.
- Support data collection and/or field verification as needed.
- Collaborate with designers and engineers to develop all aspects of a project.
- Travel locally for job site inspections and field work.
Requirements
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering, preferably in your sophomore (2nd year) or junior (3rd year) year.
- Strong interest in Building Systems Electrical Engineering.
- AutoCAD and Revit experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work full-time in the Columbus office for the duration of the co-op term.
- Must have current work authorization in the U.S.; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
