On-siteEngineering$106k–$143k/yrFull-time

Position Overview

OKSI is seeking an Electrical Engineer III to lead the design and deployment of ruggedized, mission-critical electronics for defense and environmental applications. You'll own hardware design from architecture through field validation on systems where reliability is uncompromising, collaborate cross-functionally, and mentor early-career engineers.

What You Will Do

  • Lead design of complex electrical systems (mixed-signal PCBs, embedded controllers, sensor interfaces) for defense and environmental applications
  • Architect low-power, high-reliability solutions for rugged, space-constrained platforms (guidance systems, UAS payloads, sensor packages)
  • Define requirements and validate against functional, thermal, and EMI/EMC targets
  • Integrate processors, FPGAs, sensors, and power subsystems; collaborate with software teams on hardware/firmware communication
  • Own electrical design workstreams from requirements through production release
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns with hands-on lab support
  • Lead design reviews, trade studies, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Develop test procedures and lead lab validation (thermal, vibration, environmental testing)
  • Maintain complete engineering documentation (schematics, BOMs, test data, compliance reports)
  • Manage vendor collaboration on PCB fabrication, DFM, and component lifecycle
  • Propose new components, tools, and methodologies to improve performance, cost, and reliability

Requirements

  • Preferred Qualifications: Background in munition systems, guided weapons, drone/UAS, or robotics—domains where hardware reliability is mission-critical
  • Experience in aerospace, defense electronics, hypersonics, or space systems
  • Familiarity with guidance and navigation technologies, including inertial and magnetic sensors
  • Experience with optics, EO/IR, and multispectral digital imaging systems
  • MIL-STD or DO-160 EMC design and test experience
  • Expertise in electronics design and testing for harsh environments (shock, vibration, thermal extremes)
  • Knowledge of programmable logic design (FPGA/CPLD)
  • Signal integrity and power integrity design skills
  • Experience transitioning products from prototype into full production
  • Low-level firmware expertise, particularly for hardware bring-up and testing
  • Understanding of ITAR and export compliance requirements
  • Active DoD security clearance or eligibility to obtain one

Work Location
