About the role
Maintain and enhance the reliability and efficiency of energy delivery through advanced technical expertise in medium to high-voltage systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead design efforts for complex substation projects from concept to completion.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure all physical aspects of projects meet technical, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Secure the reliability and efficiency of energy delivery, contributing to a sustainable and modern energy future.
- Provide technical guidance to internal teams, consultants, and vendors, and sign off on critical engineering designs and specifications.
- Drive technological innovation and influence business strategy by shaping the physical design standards that guide Minnesota Power's infrastructure.
- Own complex design challenges for electrical substations, applying standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI to create safe, reliable, cost-effective systems.
- Collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including construction managers and senior leadership, to develop project execution strategies and ensure engineering excellence.
- Occasional after-hours travel required to visit substations designed by the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET EAC accredited program or equivalent required.
- Four years or more of electrical utility related engineering experience.
- A master’s degree in engineering may be equivalent for up to one year of related experience.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States required with the ability to become registered in MN, WI, and ND within 6 months.
- Requires a valid driver's license.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships.
Qualifications
- Experience in managing and executing large-scale electrical engineering projects.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations, including NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices.

$91,000 - $114,000 annually
