Electrical Engineer II

About the role

The Electrical Engineer II position at the Kavli Institute is dedicated to the design, layout, fabrication, testing, operations, and maintenance of astrophysics research instrumentation and related ground support equipment for ground- and space-based observatories and associated technology development.

Responsibilities

• Technical documentation review and generation
• Vendor selection, communication, and part procurement
• Circuit board design and layout
• Soldering and assembly
• Firmware programming
• Verification testing
• Field installation and commissioning
• Long-term maintenance and operations support

Requirements

• Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
• Five years of experience in a relevant field
• Experience with independent design and layout, simulation, and implementation of analog, digital, and power system electronics, including use of schematic design and layout software
• Demonstrated skill in complex circuit board and electronic system testing and troubleshooting
• Ability to develop technical requirements, read data sheets, select components, and identify potential vendors for parts acquisition
• Strong communication skills
• Able to travel domestically and internationally
• Able to appropriately handle sensitive information using discretion and individual judgement
