About the Role

BraunAbility is the global leader in mobility transportation solutions, dedicated to enhancing independence and accessibility for individuals with mobility challenges. Our engineering teams develop integrated vehicle systems that combine electrical hardware, embedded software, vehicle networking, and mechanical systems to deliver safe, reliable, and innovative mobility products. We are seeking an experienced engineer capable of bridging hardware, software, and vehicle-level integration to support the development of next-generation mobility solutions.

This position serves as the technical owner of vehicle-level electrical system behavior throughout the product development lifecycle. The ideal candidate possesses strong hands-on experience in electrical hardware design, embedded software development, vehicle networking, and system integration. This is a highly collaborative role requiring interaction with engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and OEM vehicle platforms.

Responsibilities

  • System Integration & Vehicle Architecture
    • Own vehicle-level electrical system functionality and integration.
    • Define electrical architecture, interfaces, signal definitions, and system behavior.
    • Develop system requirements and interface specifications between hardware, software, and vehicle subsystems.
    • Support OEM vehicle integration activities across multiple vehicle platforms.
    • Lead investigation and resolution of complex system-level issues.
  • Hardware Development
    • Design, review, and troubleshoot electronic control modules and associated circuitry.
    • Support schematic development, PCB design reviews, component selection, and prototype validation.
    • Analyze vehicle electrical systems including power distribution, signal integrity, load management, and protection strategies.
    • Develop and evaluate wiring harness interfaces and connector systems.
    • Support EMC, reliability, environmental, and durability validation efforts.
  • Software & Controls Development
    • Develop, modify, and validate embedded software for vehicle control systems.
    • Support implementation of control logic, state machines, diagnostics, and communication protocols.
    • Develop and troubleshoot CAN and LIN network communications.
    • Assist with software verification, release activities, and root cause analysis.
    • Collaborate with software engineers to ensure proper hardware-software integration.
  • Testing & Validation
    • Develop integration, validation, and diagnostic test plans.
    • Support bench, prototype, DV, PV, and production validation testing.
    • Utilize oscilloscopes, CAN analyzers, data acquisition systems, and diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues.
    • Participate in DFMEA, design reviews, and verification planning activities.
    • Coordinate issue resolution with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and OEM partners.
  • Documentation & Process
    • Develop engineering documentation including system architecture diagrams, interface control documents, validation plans, technical specifications, and test reports.
    • Support change management and product release processes.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards and development processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive, transportation, industrial controls, or related industries.
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting electronic hardware systems.
  • Experience developing or supporting embedded software applications.
  • Experience with vehicle communications including CAN, LIN, UART, SPI, and I2C.
  • Strong understanding of electrical system architecture and integration.
  • Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and CAN diagnostic tools.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills at both subsystem and vehicle levels.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience integrating OEM vehicle systems.
  • Experience with automotive control modules and vehicle networking.
  • Experience with vehicle electrification, mobility, or transportation products.
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262, ASPICE, cybersecurity, or automotive development practices.
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) or system-level testing.
  • Experience with PCB design tools and schematic capture software.
  • Experience with C/C++ embedded software development.
  • Understanding of wiring harness design and vehicle packaging constraints.

What Makes This Role Unique

  • Direct ownership of vehicle-level electrical behavior and integration.
  • Opportunity to influence future electrical architectures and technology roadmaps.
  • Work across hardware, software, manufacturing, validation, and OEM vehicle systems.
  • High visibility role supporting major new vehicle programs and next-generation mobility technologies.
  • Ability to see designs progress from concept through production and customer use.
