About the role

The Engineer I will perform technical engineering tasks, studies, investigations, and designs on assigned projects of moderate complexity. This role involves mentorship from senior engineering staff, working with increasing autonomy, and contributing to proposals, presentations, and project planning.

Responsibilities

  • Complete discipline-specific engineering for systems and designs of moderate complexity.
  • Assist in developing design approaches and concepts for projects with moderate complexity; consult with senior technical staff as needed.
  • Assist in developing proposals and presentations for clients.
  • Perform engineering studies, design analyses, and assist the Project Manager in establishing budgets, cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Review drawings, RFIs, and records of changes; communicate directly with suppliers, contractors, and client representatives.
  • Perform on-site surveys and inspections during design and construction stages; issue written reports noting deficiencies.
  • Coordinate project designs with other disciplines and teams.
  • Attend client and/or project meetings when requested.
  • Write technical specifications with oversight from senior technical staff.
  • Assist the Project Manager with delegating, collaborating, and reviewing project tasks for CAD Operators, Technicians, Designers, Co-Ops, Interns, and Engineering Associates.
  • Lead design approaches and concepts on projects of low complexity, consulting with senior technical staff as needed.
  • Perform tasks in compliance with Burns and client standards, policies, procedures, and engineering codes.
  • Complete tasks efficiently, accurately, and within allotted project hours, meeting deadlines.
  • Apply and retain Burns technical policies, procedures, design analyses, calculations, engineering methodology, and equipment selection criteria.
  • Complete special tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Professionally licensed Electrical Engineer with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 5–8 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional Engineering License is required.
  • Progressive engineering experience working on tasks of moderate complexity.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering design software such as AutoCAD or Revit and other specialized design software.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills for moderate complexity issues with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform technical calculations and research/interpreting engineering discipline codes and standards.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize work in a team environment.
  • Proactive communication (oral and written), strong analytical skills, and ability to troubleshoot key issues.
  • Ability to collaborate, build relationships, and work effectively in a team.
  • Previous consulting experience is highly preferred.
