About the Role
Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of electrical engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope. Performs work which involves conventional electrical engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. Requires broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and good knowledge of related practices.
As a fully competent electrical engineer, plans and conducts work requiring judgment in independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Provides procurement, field engineering including walk downs, modifications/maintenance, and testing support.
Responsibilities
- Perform electrical engineering tasks for projects of moderate scope, including AC/DC systems design, load studies, coordination studies, and electrical equipment design change packages.
- Conduct short circuit and voltage drop analyses, motor operability evaluations, and root cause analysis.
- Apply advanced electrical power system theory and techniques.
- Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards, including EQ physical installation requirements.
- Support procurement processes and field engineering activities, including walk downs.
- Develop and implement solutions for complex design challenges, including conflicting requirements and unconventional materials.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May supervise or coordinate the work of multidisciplinary engineers, drafters, technicians, and others assisting in specific assignments.
Independently performs most assignments with instructions regarding general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisor’s approval on proposed project plans.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering field from an accredited curriculum, plus appropriate continuing education.
- Demonstrated proficiency in electrical engineering, evidenced by completion of an Engineering Graduate Progression Plan or equivalent post-graduate education and experience (minimum 2 years of related experience and 1 year of nuclear power plant experience).
- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and S-3/S-4 medical qualifications when applicable.
- Willingness and ability to assume "on-call" rotational assignments, including 24/7 availability.
- Ability to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime during peak periods, as permitted by TVAN procedures.
- Willingness and ability to travel to plant locations and accept temporary field assignments as required.
Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Engineer (desirable).
- Membership in professional and technical societies (desirable).
