Electrical Engineer, Data Center, Colocation Regional Engineering - AMER

About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to innovation. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to help deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.

This role involves collaborating with business development, design engineers, data center operations professionals, external vendors, and consultants to assess and select colocation facilities that meet AWS business requirements. You’ll showcase your expertise in data center design, engineering, and operations, working directly with internal teams and vendors to identify, document, and resolve operational or design deficiencies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site assessments against AWS standards for colocation data centers and telecommunications facilities.
• Review vendor critical infrastructure designs and perform risk analysis and availability calculations to determine fit-for-use for AWS cloud compute and networking services.
• Perform design and equipment submittal reviews for new data centers in your region.
• Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site or equipment failures.
• Support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, and event support.
• Own the design for existing data center upgrades to add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.
• Lead, review, and approve designs for colocation data center upgrades that improve availability and efficiency.
• Interface with internal teams (data center design, server hardware, environmental health and safety) to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability.
• Work on concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
• Initiate and lead engineering site audits within Amazon-owned or colocation data centers.
• Act as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer License.
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
• 5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems.

Pay

Base salary range:

• USA, GA, Atlanta: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually.
• USA, VA, Herndon: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually.

Additional compensation may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
