Job Summary
SMSI is seeking Electrical Engineers to work onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM. The Electrical Engineer will perform a full range of design engineering responsibilities in support of facility design, operation, and maintenance activities. This role requires applying broad and diversified knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, and DOE-complex requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform conventional engineering design, analysis, and calculations.
- Develop, review, and support engineering design packages.
- Provide construction, field, and project engineering support.
- Work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidiscipline team.
- Apply engineering technology and tools to deliver high-quality work.
- Interface with stakeholders across disciplines in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant engineering experience required for Engineer 2.
- Minimum 6 years of relevant engineering experience required for Engineer 3.
- Working knowledge of industry, regulatory, and DOE/NNSA codes, standards, and criteria relevant to electrical engineering.
- Prior experience facilitating and developing engineering design packages.
- Familiarity with typical engineering deliverables (e.g., construction documents).
- Experience with computer-aided design/drafting software or markup tools.
- Design experience in power and familiarity with low power, 208 and 120 are very common.
- US citizenship is required.
- Able to obtain and maintain DOE Q clearance is required.
- Candidate must be able to work onsite in Los Alamos.
- Candidate must have an active Real ID driver's license for badging and onboarding.
Preferred Skills
- Active (or recently inactive) DOE Q clearance preferred but not required.
- Design experience in DOD, DOE, nuclear, accelerator or industrial facility operations is a plus.
- Knowledge of DOE, LANL Engineering Standards, and Conduct of Engineering principles and procedures is a plus.
- Controls experience is a plus.
Qualifications
- EIT or Professional Engineer license is a plus.
