Elucent Medical | Eden Prairie, MN Elucent's electromagnetic positioning system tells a surgeon exactly where the target is. You will help build the electronics behind it and keep them running, from troubleshooting boards with the operations team to testing the next-generation system. Department: Research and Development Reports to: Director of Hardware Engineering Work location: On-site in Eden Prairie, MN. Hands-on lab work is done in person, with flexibility outside of lab time. Position type: Full time, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week Pay range: Base salary based on experience, plus an annual bonus. Work authorization: US work authorization required, no sponsorship About Elucent Medical Elucent Medical is a medical device company building surgical navigation technology for cancer surgery. Its systems turn standard surgical instruments into smart tools, so surgeons can locate and remove tissue with more precision. Elucent has about 140 people and commercial revenue, and it still moves like a small team. Quality, operations, and supply chain sit right next to engineering, so decisions get made fast. About The Role This is a dual role. You will split your time between two areas, with mentoring from a senior electrical engineer and your manager. Operations support. Troubleshoot components at the board level on nonconforming material reports (NCMRs), do the deep research, and act as the subject matter expert for the operations team. Work with vendors to resolve issues. Product development. Support board and electrical system design for Elucent's next-generation platform, then characterize and test it. You will not lead the program. A senior engineer leads the electrical work and you will support it. Day to day, you will work in an electrical lab with waveform generators, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment. Signal-to-noise is very sensitive, so a lot of the work is tracing where interference comes from. If you see a better way to do something, say so. Supervisory responsibilities None. What you will do Troubleshoot electrical and board-level issues on NCMRs and support the operations team as a subject matter expert Work with vendors to resolve component and board issues Design new schematics and board layouts, and maintain the existing ones Characterize and test boards and systems, and run engineering studies to confirm performance Assemble, evaluate, and test prototypes Run formal verification testing and prepare test protocols, reports, and supporting documentation Carry out component qualifications Help build pilot and low rate production EnVisio systems Communicate status and results clearly to the project team Recommend improvements to the design and to how the work gets done What you bring Required BA, BS, or Master's degree in electrical engineering or a related field 2 to 3 years of electrical engineering experience. Medical device experience is a plus. Two years of EE plus one year in medical device works well. Experience that helps Electrical systems development, troubleshooting, documentation, and testing, ideally in a regulated industry Hands-on experience deploying electrical systems to medical device targets Experience with electronics schematic capture and layout tools A track record of starting something on your own and finishing it Skills And Abilities Strong documentation and writing skills Strong verbal and written communication Strong knowledge of electrical development practices Works well with team members and functional area representatives Collaborates across teams and departments to hit project targets and objectives Generates and protects intellectual property through innovation and proper use of procedures and documentation Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures Strong knowledge of current applicable software regulations and standards Who will thrive here A self-starter who does not wait for direction. When you get an assignment, you go find the answer and come back with what you want to do. Someone who likes speed. Elucent has no layers of approval. If you come from a large, hierarchical company and want this pace, we want to hear from you. A collaborator. There are no silos here, and people work through conflict openly and with humility. Someone who finishes. Activity does not count until something is done. What success looks like in 6 to 12 months ▸ You are a subject matter expert on how the system works ▸ You have closed out one or two NCMRs, such as vendor issues or electrical design fixes ▸ You have contributed to getting the next-generation system into design verification Why this role You will learn at a pace you will not get at a large company, and you will work across troubleshooting, design, and testing instead of one narrow slice. The senior engineer is likely to move up as Elucent grows, which creates room to grow behind them. The goal is finished work you can point to. Physical requirements and work conditions Sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods Occasional lifting of lightweight equipment On-site work is required for hands-on lab work Benefits Elucent offers health insurance, a 401(k) with a company match, flexible work arrangements, paid time off, and ongoing professional development.
