Electrical Engineer

About the Role

Under the direction of the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Electrical Engineer II applies the laws of electrical energy and engineering principles to design heat processing equipment in accordance with Company policies and procedures. Typical specializations include PLC process programs, operator interface and network communications for PLC and peripheral components, and piping/components for heat processing equipment. This role performs routine to intermediate engineering tasks with the goal of developing advanced applied engineering skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement control systems with PLCs, relays, contactors, devices (RTDs, transmitters, switches, etc.), electrical schematic drawings, and BOMs.
• Perform PLC architecture design and software programming for heat processing and process cleaning equipment.
• Write sequence of operations.
• Adhere to established standards, policies, and procedures to complete work assignments.
• Utilize computer-assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering tasks.
• Act as electrical technical lead on assigned projects.
• Possess complete knowledge of sales contracts to define critical project criteria and ensure project completion within budget.
• Demonstrate professional skills in structuring assigned activities, creativity, teamwork, client interaction, decision-making, and problem-solving.
• Communicate directly with clients for approvals, required information, and contract progress reports.
• Monitor compliance with client criteria and all National, NFPA, and UL codes.
• Maintain accurate and neat records and documentation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent coursework preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 2–4 years of related work experience in an Electrical Engineering/PLC environment, preferably with heat processing or related equipment design.
• Minimum of two (2) years of PLC programming/program experience.
• Proficiency in PLC architecture design and software programming.
• Familiarity with systems integration (PLC, HMI, instrumentation, networking, communication, power distribution).
• VFD and Soft Start experience is a plus.
• Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical).
• Familiarity with gas trains and associated codes.
• Understanding of compliance requirements: NFPA, NEC, UL, CE, and OSHA.
• Strong mathematical skills, including ability to perform calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to record and log information accurately.
• Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment with strong decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in general office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, MRP/ERP systems).
• Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal, written, or diagram form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Occasionally, the incumbent may need to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders and must occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Environment

The work environment is primarily office-based with occasional visits to the plant floor.
