About the Role
This position is based out of our Tulsa, OK headquarters and requires up to 50% travel to field locations. The Electrical Engineer II is responsible for the creation and implementation of electrical power systems design for new construction and maintenance projects, integration of these designs into overall project plans, planned maintenance of electrical power system components, and administration of construction and maintenance contracts related to electrical power systems. The role also involves participation in Reliability Centered Maintenance, Reliability Centered Design, and other engineering initiatives, as well as condition monitoring data analysis.
Responsibilities
- Comply with DOT, OSHA, and company health, safety, and environmental requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment and reporting workplace hazards.
- Implement and supervise the creation of engineering designs and drawings, and prepare specifications for electrical power systems (e.g., power substations, bus ducts, switchgears, capacitor banks, high voltage distribution systems, power generation equipment, power transfer switching equipment, and motor control centers) for new construction or maintenance/upgrade of existing facilities.
- Manage electrical power system installation and maintenance projects from initiation through closure, including preparing project scope, cost estimates, Authorization For Expenditures (AFE), schedules, bid packets, purchasing materials, coordinating installation and inspections, reporting project status, monitoring budgets and timelines, managing change controls, and completing post-project reviews.
- Provide field supervision or arrange for supervision of contractors installing new equipment, modifying existing equipment, or performing maintenance on electrical power systems.
- Oversee the updating of protective relay settings or programming for electrical power systems and maintain records of these settings.
- Provide technical advice on the operation, testing, and maintenance of electrical power systems, including troubleshooting malfunctions and failures, and prepare/update safety and operation procedures.
- Manage the development and updating of process maps and prepare operations and safety procedures based on these maps for electrical power systems.
- Prepare recommendations for annual expense and capital budgets, provide input into the Reliability departmental budget, and assist in preparing project write-ups with estimated costs and schedules for management review.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the implementation of electrical and power component designs for new construction and maintenance projects within the pipeline industry.
- Ability to actively engage in safe behavior and follow company safety principles and procedures.
- Knowledge of emergency and safety procedures, policies, equipment operating parameters, and applicable DOT, EPA, FERC, DHS, and OSHA requirements.
- Knowledge of high and medium voltage electrical systems.
- Proficiency in using computer software such as SKM Power System, Relay Software (GE Multilin and Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories), and Microsoft Office products (Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project Manager, and Access).
- Skill in operating multimeters, vibration detectors, oscilloscopes, high potential testers, and Megger resistance testers.
- Ability to design and analyze high voltage power systems and resolve related problems.
- Knowledge of effective project planning, monitoring, and management, including scoping tasks, setting objectives, developing schedules, and measuring performance.
- Ability to establish relationships and networks across a broad range of people and groups.
- Knowledge of teamwork and collaboration tools and practices.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of applicable codes governing electrical system operation, upgrades, new installations, and repairs, including API 541, API 841, NEMA, and NFPA.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for negotiating contracts, resolving problems, and preparing technical reports.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the work of others.
- Completion of a Reliability Certified Maintenance Manager (CMM) course and certification within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized education in the design and operation of high voltage power systems and medium voltage induction motors.
- Thermography Level I and Maintenance Manager (CMM) certification.
- FLIR Thermography Level 1 certification.
- PdMA training on the use of applicable software and equipment.
