B&N Electrical Engineer Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design for commercial and federal buildings.
- Direct and mentor engineering support staff in the preparation of design calculations, drawings, specifications, design analysis, and cost estimates.
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, design analysis and construction cost estimates.
- Perform building assessments, electrical evaluations, and quality control reviews to ensure conformance with client standards and codes.
- Provide full-scope electrical design including power distribution, lighting and control systems, standby and emergency power, and low-voltage systems (data, communications, fire alarm, security).
- Cook up with multi-discipline project teams across Norfolk, Richmond, Roanoke, and Frederick offices to deliver integrated MEP solutions.
- Serve as Engineer of Record for assigned projects, managing technical rigor, quality assurance, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Support design and field activities including shop drawing reviews, RFI responses, and construction site observations to ensure design intent is maintained.
- Support business development initiatives, including proposal development, client presentations, and expansion of B&N’s client base.
- Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced team members.
- Leverage experience in data center power topologies, medium and low-voltage distribution, UPS and generator systems, and infrastructure retrofits to expand B&N’s portfolio and capabilities.
Skills & Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) required; NCEES Record preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited college or university
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, Procore, AGI32, and SKM Power Tools experience strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience performing power system studies, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies.
- Experience with data center, higher-ed, and science and technology markets preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage clients, mentor staff, and foster collaboration across offices.
- Experience designing instrumentation and control systems is a plus.
- Desire and ability to collaborate in a team environment.
