Electrical Engineer
Position Summary
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing and developing advanced electrical systems that power high-speed rotating equipment, with a focus on Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for AC motors, DC motor controllers for DC motor applications, motor controls, and the integration of industrial communication protocols. This role ensures robust, efficient, and reliable electrical solutions by leveraging expertise in power electronics, motor design, and control algorithms, while incorporating best practices in thermal management, EMI/EMC compliance, and manufacturing processes.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Design and Development of Electrical Systems
Support, Develop and optimize Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for AC motors and DC motor controllers for DC motor applications.
Design, integrate and Diagnose CAN-based communication architectures that support deterministic data exchange between motor controllers, sensors.
Support motor design activities
Performance Analysis: Evaluating how the motor behaves under different operating conditions (speed, torque, load).
Control Algorithm Development: Creating or refining algorithms that control motor speed, torque, and position. Implementing algorithms in VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) or DC motor controllers. Ensuring smooth acceleration, deceleration, and fault protection using techniques like PID control, vector control, or field-oriented control (FOC).
Testing and Validation: Conduct hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and system-level testing for VFD and DC motor controller. Validate designs against industry standards for safety, reliability, and electromagnetic compatibility. Develop and maintain test plans, instructions, and scripts (Python, C++) to ensure product durability and performance.
Manufacturing and Integration: Oversee PCB design and fabrication, soldering, and wiring harness assembly. Collaborate on enclosure design, thermal management, EMI/EMC compliance. Coordinate assembly, testing, and validation of electrical systems. Utilize 3D printing (metal and polymer) for prototyping and component development. Ensure proper application of coating, plating, and painting processes for durability and performance.
New Product Development: Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales, and product management teams to integrate electrical design principles into new product development. Validate that changes to manufacturing processes do not impact overall product performance or reliability.
Continuous Improvement and Root Cause Analysis: Support root cause analysis (RCA) for failures and implement corrective and preventive actions. Identify opportunities for improving product reliability, quality, and durability through data-driven insights.
Collaboration and Communication: Partner with engineering and quality teams to define, measure, and record key performance metrics. Maintain accurate documentation and records for testing and design processes. Develop and present reliability reports to stakeholders, highlighting findings and recommending improvements.
