About the role

This Electrical Engineer role focuses on leading the conceptual and detailed design of advanced power conversion products for aerospace and defense applications. You will drive new product development and sustaining engineering activities, ensuring robust design practices, high reliability, and smooth transition from engineering to manufacturing. The position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge power electronics, software-based command and control systems, and energy storage technologies in a highly collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the conceptual and detailed design of new power conversion products, including topology trade studies, magnetics design, worst case circuit analysis (WCCA), component derating, and thermal, shock, and vibration analyses.
  • Approve qualification test plans, procedures, and reports, ensuring that Design for Excellence (DFX) principles such as Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) are fully incorporated prior to production release.
  • Own root cause corrective action (RCCA) for test failures and field returns using structured methods such as fishbone (Ishikawa) analysis and fault tree analysis (FTA), and drive corrective actions through verified closure.
  • Recommend and implement product improvements for existing designs to enhance reliability, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve engineering processes, standards, and procedures to elevate engineering quality, efficiency, and product development execution.
  • Own sustaining engineering activities, including response to field issues, engineering support for in-production units, component obsolescence management, drawing revisions, and derivative design work, while balancing sustaining efforts against new product development commitments.
  • Personally manage select small projects and internal engineering initiatives end-to-end, including defining scope, building schedules, planning resources, tracking milestones, and communicating with stakeholders when dedicated program management is not required.
  • Lead the development of technical content for proposals and RFP responses, including system descriptions, requirements compliance matrices, qualification approaches, technical risk discussions, work estimates, and basis of estimate documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to integrate software-based command and control systems into inverter and converter designs, including active power factor correction front ends, selectable output designs, multiple unit smart sharing systems, and data bus communication interfaces such as CAN and ARINC 429.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, guiding them in best practices for power electronics design and project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in power electronic design.
  • Strong in power electronics, including switched-mode power supplies and motor control.
  • Hands-on experience with schematic design for power conversion and control systems.
  • Expertise with MOSFET, IGBT, SiC, and GaN devices, including gate drive design and PWM control.
  • Deep understanding of buck, boost, inverter, and DC-DC converter topologies and switching frequency considerations.
  • Proficiency in transformer and magnetics design for power conversion applications.
  • Ability to perform worst case circuit analysis (WCCA), component derating, and thermal, shock, and vibration analyses.
  • Experience applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) principles in product development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage scope and schedules, and deliver to committed dates.
  • Proven capability to mentor junior engineers and lead small technical teams.
  • Strong analytical skills for root cause corrective action (RCCA), including use of fishbone (Ishikawa) and fault tree analysis (FTA) techniques.
  • Experience with analog design and power conversion for aerospace, defense, or similarly demanding applications.

Pay

$76.00 - $80.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
