Electrical Engineer

About the role

The position is located in the Core Labs Division of Abbott in Irving, TX. The diagnostic solutions developed here are utilized globally in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics. The work involves providing engineering support to new and existing products, processes, prototypes, fixtures, and tools. It also includes applying engineering and scientific principles to evaluate and solve technical problems.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support to new and existing products, processes, prototypes, fixtures, and tools.
• Apply engineering and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems.
• Use multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to design and develop products.
• Investigate and resolve problems involving equipment and systems.
• Routinely use the most effective and cost-efficient business practices to execute processes; continually evaluate their effectiveness and appropriateness.
• Perform lay out and construct a variety of prototype tools and fixtures required for development purposes.
• Conduct evaluations, tests, and analyses related to feasibility and function.
• Perform troubleshooting and fault isolation activities and remain updated on and consult on technical advancements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute tests, perform root cause analysis, and participate in investigations.
• Exercise technical judgment in planning, organizing, performing, coordinating, and directing engineering work.
• Conduct engineering studies.
• Document custom tools with specifications, schematics, and mechanical layouts to support document control and tool release.
• Apply theoretical principles, evaluation, ingenuity, and creative/analytical techniques within engineering and scientific principles.
• Help establish processes based on product specifications and evaluate process and design alternatives based on design for manufacturability.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field.
• 3+ years of relevant experience, including industry-specific experience.
• Computer skills and ability to perform basic word processing/spreadsheet tasks to perform documentation, presentations, and analysis activities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate effectively at multiple levels within the organization.
• Multi-tasking, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines.
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills, along with attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
• Experience working in a FDA-regulated environment is preferred.
• Experience working in a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) environment is preferred.
• Experience working with medical devices in Hardware/Software components is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field.
• 3+ years of relevant experience, including industry-specific experience.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
• Experience with medical device design and manufacturing.
