We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Nuclear Design Engineer to support a major power uprate initiative at the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant. This role will focus on electrical systems, instrumentation, and control components to execute critical design changes that increase electrical output.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support design efforts for plant modifications related to power uprate, including:
- Moisture Separator Reheaters
- Heater Drain Tank Pump Motors
- Setpoint and instrumentation changes
- Perform and verify engineering analyses and calculations (electrical and mechanical).
- Serve as a frontline design checker for internal and external design deliverables.
- Interface with design providers (equipment vendors, architect-engineering firms) and plant personnel to gather input and ensure alignment.
- Utilize tools such as ETAP (electrical), ANSYS (mechanical), and STAAD or Stroodle (civil).
- Support procurement efforts by completing early-stage evaluations to enable timely purchase orders.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Implementation Engineers, and Design Engineers across disciplines.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in nuclear plant design or a highly regulated design environment.
- Familiarity with the nuclear industry's standardized design process (post-2018 implementation).
- Strong analytical skills and experience with engineering analysis tools.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work across teams and disciplines.
- Demonstrated initiative and resourcefulness in solving complex design challenges.
- Must be eligible for unescorted access to a nuclear facility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting power uprate projects.
- Familiarity with both electrical and instrumentation/control systems.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or advanced certifications.
Schedule
- Ongoing: 5 days/week on-site. Remote-only candidates will not be considered.
Contract Duration
Primary Phase: Through mid-2028. Extension Potential: Top performers may be retained through 2029, with potential for continued support into 2030.
