About the role

The Electric Distribution Operations department in the Peninsula Office (Hampton, VA) has an Electric Service Worker 1st Class vacancy. This position requires a self-starter who can effectively prioritize and who doesn't mind working alone and driving.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintenance of both overhead and underground electrical distribution lines
  • First responder to power outages
  • Work closely with the Regional Operations Centers within the Dominion service territory
  • Work alone 90% of the time
  • Work a rotating shift
  • Available for callouts during outages and/or storm restoration events
  • Eligible for premium pay for applicable overtime hours

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in overhead and underground electrical line work (a partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)
  • Must be able to assess at a competency level 4 in the Dominion Lineman Development program in both overhead and underground energized line work (successful candidates must take a pre-employment assessment)
  • Must be able to lift 75lbs
  • Must have a solid understanding of industrial electrical distribution systems and maintenance techniques
  • Must understand and be competent in switching practices related to the electrical distribution industry
  • Knowledge of safety processes and practices within the industrial electrical distribution industry
  • Must have strong communications skills, verbal and written
  • Must be able to understand industry 3-way communication method
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work alone 90% of the time while still being part of a local team
  • Must be able to meet and maintain applicable NERC/FERC requirements
  • Ability to obtain a valid Class A CDL by the end of the 5th month of employment
  • Call out, overtime availability, and ability to work rotating shifts is required
  • Must be able to maintain a weight below 290 pounds for safety reasons
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must pass a health and physical assessment
  • This job requires "recommended" test results from Modern Hire Electric Ground Worker Virtual Job Tryout administered online (assessment is untimed, but usually takes about 45 minutes to complete)

Qualifications

Perform functions including but not limited to: responding to underground and overhead outages, locating and repairing cable faults, replacing fuses with appropriate hot sticks, performing minimal switching, removing trees from overhead conductors, and replacing streetlight and watchlight eyes and bulbs.

Prefer individuals who have completed a recognized Line Worker Development program.

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined will be considered for this opportunity.

Pay

The starting rate for this position is $51.91 / hour.

Schedule

Rotating shift with callout, overtime availability, and storm restoration event response required. Work alone 90% of the time.
