About the role

The P ZC T&D Operations Department of the P T&D Operations Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has a management vacancy for a professional role. This position conducts field assessments of Hawaiian Electric’s facilities and internal resources and leads teams to ensure the right tools, equipment, and work standards are in place to complete work safely and efficiently. The role involves inspecting and verifying the quality of construction work to ensure compliance with standards, and regularly traveling to various work sites within the state.

Responsibilities

• Travels to various work locations to conduct field assessments ensuring the safety of personnel, proper training, and availability of tools and equipment to perform work safely and efficiently.
• Supports and trains personnel on technical standards, safety procedures, policies and practices, standard operating procedures, and other work practices related to worker safety and work processing.
• Partners with the Standards team to ensure the safest and most efficient means to construct T&D facilities.
• Inspects and verifies the quality of construction work performed by Hawaiian Electric crews, including emergency and planned Electric Corrective (EC) tickets, ensuring compliance with HECO Construction Standards.
• Audits completed supervisor work packages; ensures all jobs are properly closed out and supporting documentation is accounted for.
• Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including preparation for such responses.

Requirements

• High School or GED Diploma; Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, or a combination of experience and education preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of electric utility regulatory requirements to complete thorough reviews and analysis of T&D construction work.
• Expert knowledge of standard tools used in construction work to identify tools, standards, and equipment needed for a safe and efficient work environment.
• Knowledge of industry standards, company specifications, and federal, state, and local requirements to perform inspections evaluating the quality of work by construction crews.
• Graduate of an approved USDOL Electrical Lineman apprenticeship or equivalent training; candidates must provide documentation of apprenticeship completion.
• Must be an effective communicator with advanced communication skills to convey findings, recommendations, and seek buy-in.
• Demonstrated ability in coaching personnel and facilitating/conducting on-the-job training.
• Must have or be able to obtain a State of Hawaii Class 3 driver’s license at a minimum; must meet standards for frequent driving positions.
• Ability to facilitate post-verification review meetings and summarize complex findings for leadership.
• Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues, and tints.
• Ability to learn computer/technology skills (iPad, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, SAP, email, etc.).

Qualifications

• Extensive experience (8 or more years) in Electrical Utilities Transmission and Distribution or a closely related field.
• Minimum 10 years of Journeyman Lineman level work experience, ideally leading crews.
• Several years (3-5) of experience in T&D Construction Inspector, Trouble Inspector, and/or conducting root cause investigations (ideal).

Preferred Qualifications

• American Society for Quality (ASQ) Quality Improvement Specialist or Certified Quality Auditor certifications.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
• Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) certification.

Pay

The hiring range for this position is $89,100.00 to $111,500.00. The selected candidate will be placed according to their skills and qualifications.
